Mixed reality welcome to country experience

KOJO were thrilled to work with the AFL - Australian Football League and Seven Network to deliver a first of it’s kind, Mixed Reality Welcome to Country experience for broadcast TV and in-stadium on what was a huge night for the AFL.

A special thank you to Jack Buckskin and We Create Print Deliver for their performances and illustrations. It was such a privelidge to have the opportunity to help bring to life an incredible story of the Kaurna people, who are the Traditional Custodians of the Adelaide Plains, where the game was held.

Experience development:

This project utilized KOJO's in-house motion team to create an immersive experience using Unreal Engine. Our team worked both in the studio and onsite to bring this vision to life at Adelaide Oval during the first match of the Gather Round weekend. My role involved assisting with storyboarding, collaborating closely with We Create Print Deliver to find creative ways to use their stunning illustrations to depict the story of the Kaurna people. Once the narrative beats were visualized through the boarding phase, I began animating the 2D elements. This involved separating the designs and animating components such as the kangaroo, river, scenery, and the representation of Jack Buckskin. These animated segments were then handed off to the 3D team, comprising Jack Prenc and Kevin Lorenzi, who used Unreal Engine to craft the final experience shown above intgrating particle simulations and 3D animation.
